Leadership through service and excellence in craft
A 10-Week Theatrical Ensemble Experience
Apprentices is a small, dedicated troupe of students who train in traditional storytelling and bring those stories to life for others.
Each week, Apprentices rehearse and perform original, devised interpretations of classic folk tales for the Gloamlings. They are not observing the work—they are responsible for carrying it.
Apprentices is the advanced stage of The Gloam’s theater training path—focused on craft, responsibility, and ensemble performance.
Students are expected to show up prepared, support one another, and contribute meaningfully to the group’s work each week.
What does a week look like?
Each week combines rehearsal, skill-building, and live performance.
Rehearsal (1 hour)
Students work as an ensemble to build the week’s material—developing scenes, movement, character, and storytelling choices using voice, body, props, and culturally appropriate traditional story telling techniques (song, dance, pupperty, etc)
Performance (4 sessions per week)
Apprentices perform their work live for Gloamling cohorts. Each performance requires presence, adaptability, and consistency.
Students are not repeating a fixed script—they are actively responding to the energy and needs of each group.
What makes this different
Every Apprentice is essential to the work.
Each student is given a pivotal role every single week
There are no passive positions or background roles
Each performance depends on their clarity, commitment, and presence
This is not a class where students wait for turns.
It is a working ensemble.
What students are building

ensemble performance skills

Who is this for?
Apprentices is a strong fit for students who:
