A 10-Week Immersive Story Experience

Gloamlings is a small-group, screen-free program where children step inside a story and work together to figure out what is happening—and what to do about it.

Each week, the group enters into the next chapter of an unfolding narrative drawn from classic folk tales. There are no scripts or spectators. Children collaborate, question, test ideas, and move the story forward together.

Gloamlings is part of The Gloam’s theater training path—focused on listening, collaboration, and presence inside a shared world.

It is not a performance class.
It is a place where children develop the foundational skills that make performance possible: Listening, contributing, and being true to themselves.

What does a session look like?

Each 60-minute session follows a clear structure, while leaving room for discovery and surprise.

Each session is designed as a structured ensemble experience, where children must listen, respond, and act within a shared world.

Arrival & Entry into the Room (0–5 minutes)
Children enter and are drawn immediately into the world through a simple ritual and a new message, object, or unfolding situation.

Discovery (5–20 minutes)
The group encounters the beginning of that week’s story and begins investigating together as an ensemble—examining artifacts, reading clues, and forming ideas.

Challenge (20–40 minutes)
The problem deepens. Puzzles require collaboration, logic, and clear communication. Children test hypotheses, disagree, adjust, and try again.

Turning Point (40–55 minutes)
The group reaches a breakthrough—something is revealed, solved, or understood through a shared realization that changes the direction of the story.

Reflection (final minutes)
The group briefly names what they practiced (courage, honesty, self-control, cooperation) and closes the chapter.

No one is put on the spot. Participation grows naturally as children become invested in the story and the group.

What children are building

Through this work, children develop:

  • focused listening

  • clear expression

  • collaborative problem-solving

  • comfort contributing to a group

  • the ability to stay present inside a shared experience

These are the same foundational skills used in theater—applied here through story rather than performance.

Who is this for?

The Gloam is a strong fit for children who are:

  • drawn to books, stories, puzzles, or imaginative play

  • curious, thoughtful, or inclined to ask deeper questions

  • energized by figuring things out rather than being told the answers

  • looking for “their people”—a group that enjoys thinking and creating together

It is especially meaningful for children who are more reserved in group settings, feel out of place in highly competitive or performance-heavy environments, and want something more engaging than passive entertainment.

Not every child wants this kind of experience—but for the right child, it lights them up and carries beyond the session and into the world ahead.

Families who choose The Gloam are looking for a slower, more thoughtful experience—one where their child is deeply known, intentionally challenged, and genuinely engaged.
